218 Cookbooks and Counting down

Update 5/13/09
I probably should be writing the date I made a recipe and what it was.
I will do that now.

I own 218 cookbooks.
This is my record of making a recipe from each and every one...

Seasoned with Love. A cookbook put together by my sons' elementary school in 1991.
I, of course, (I say of course, because I'm compulsive like that. It's not that I had an OUSTSANDING recipe in every category. LOL ) entered a recipe in every category, but I found a "German Pancake" Recipe that isn't mine, which we all love in this cookbook, and I make it over and over and over. I can't get rid of this cookbook....it has everybody's tried and true!

German Pancakes.

Readers Digest, Extraordinary Meals from ordinary ingredients.

I bought this one in December 2008. I bought it for my son for part of his Christmas present. He is my oldest, married 18 months at this time and he calls me wanting to know how to cook this and how to cook that... he's the only one of mine who shows an interest in cooking. So I bought him this gift. And then I went back and bought myself one. Because....it looked like there was some good stuff in there! (I'm impulsive...YIKES)

I made a Bourbon and Rootbeer glaze for pork spareribs from this cookbook. It really does have good recipes from ordinary ingredients. I can't get rid of it.

Bourbon and Rootbeer Glaze

The Splendid Table's How to Eat Supper". On Sunday afternoons, on NPR, I sometimes will be able to catch Lynne Rossetto Kasper's "The Splendid Table". If not, I subscribe to the Podcasts and down load them onto my Mp3 player, my Zune. And then I walk and listen to the most wonderful radio program about food and cooking. From this cookbook, I made "Pan-Crisped Deviled eggs on French lettuce leaves". I made them to go along with the "root beer" ribs. It was an interesting little experiment for me.....to "fry" my deviled eggs. And then lay them atop some nice greens. They were fine, but my family thought I was crazy. I love The Splendid Kitchen so much, that I can't get rid of this cookbook.

  2. Good idea! So you have 218 cookbooks now... and how many blogs? LOL

I can tell you haven't moved lately... boxed up books weigh a ton... that's how I got rid of most of mine.

  4. I just came across your blog...what a great idea! I too got so frustrated with not cooking from my 100+ collection that I made myself a 2010 cooking challenge.
